Amos Guiora’s father was on a death march through Yugoslavia when liberated by partisans in November 1944. His mother was in a courtyard in Budapest waiting to be executed by a ring squad, when resistance fighters intervened and saved her life. Guiora’s latest book, The Crime of Complicity: The Bystander in the Holocaust, examines how the Holocaust was neither the first nor last time bystanders have stood by, complicit in the actions of the perpetrator; silent in the face of victim distress. Currently a professor at the University of Utah’s Law School, Guiora (Lt. Colonel, IDF retired) served as the Commander of Israel’s School of Military Law.
