  2. BACK TO THE PROPHETS: THE BOOKS OF I AND II KINGS: ELIJAH THE PROPHET

    Classes & Multi-Week Courses
Over 13 sessions, Ken Cohen will lead us in a study of one of Israel’s greatest prophets, Eliyahu HaNavi. Elijah was relentless in trying to clean up the moral, legal and religious corruption of his age and repeatedly confronted King Ahab of Israel and his wife, the lovely and very snazzy Queen Jezebel. We’ll not only study the Biblical texts about Elijah, the wonder-worker, but also delve into the later midrash and folklore about him: How does he attend every bris and every seder? Why do the sages consider him to be still alive? Why will he be the precursor of the Messiah?
