While members of the Jewish Yishuv (The Jewish community in Palestine) were not in a position to impact the course of the Second World War, the war and the Sho’ah had a profound impact on the Yishuv (and the young state of Israel). In this talk, we will explore the way the Yishuv and its leadership reacted to the War, the way political and ideological divisions shaped the attitudes of members of the Yishuv towards the events in Europe, and how these differences helped define some of the core political divisions in the immediate aftermath of Israeli independence.
